The fear of photography studio shoots is pretty known to every photographer.

It happened to me plenty of times and I am sure you experienced that stressful feeling at least once.

Okay, I should have said it still happens to me: I panic. Not having some outdoor environment gets me on my nerves.

But on a friendly note, I finally found a way to overcome this fear and to become more confident.

Let me tell you how.

2 Tips On How to Be More Confident on Studio Shoots

Speak and chat will help you feel comfortable

The first tip is to play around, move and don’t stay still. Whether it’s you or the photographer try to speak and have a little conversation. This would help you to relax.

Do you remember when I talked of the 3 actors playing on a photography shoot? Well, I will link it here so you can check it but basically, I was saying the importance of who is in charge of what is happening. And it may not always be the photographer.

I will give you this example. In this shoot done in a studio from a friend of mine who is also a photographer, I have learned I need to be in charge because he doesn’t listen to me at all.

He doesn’t like to talk, it is very difficult for him to let me feel comfortable so this time I decided to take control. I was always moving – even though heels didn’t help – in order to get natural-looking pictures.

And it worked. I wasn’t posing and I got the results I wanted, after that I had already decided I wanted to recreate a very fluo filter over them with post-editing. So let’s get to the second tip.

Put the attention off of you

The second tip on how to overcome the fear of photo studio is to move the attention off of you. To do so, you have to think in advance.

From the start, I already knew that outfit photos in front of a white set would be the visual death of me. It is not enough and I would be too exposed.

Whilst recreating a fake colourful filter over all the pictures would have moved the attention somewhere else. Yes, I was always the protagonist of al the pictures but I wasn’t the only one.

If it makes sense, after the post-editing, the ‘myself in the pictures‘ is sharing the scene with a co-actor: the strong blue-red filter. This overlay layer is that thing that catches the eye first.

The Denim Editorial

Overall, it was an experiment but I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and see what I could do differently this time. The two outfits I wanted to show were both denim based so the filter had to be the same, otherwise, it would have been quite confusing.

Femme Luxe Finery has much more to offer like different types of co ords and lounge wear sets:

I had chosen these two pair of ripped jeans, one ripped in front the light wah one and the other which is darker and ripped on the back. To go alongside I got a nude top from a co ords and a black sleeveless body. I added two of my favourite and most uncorfortable heels ever but I am very happy of the final look.
