Let me give you some general advise on how to use Polaroids and props during fashion shoots. Every fashion blogger might be in need of some new inspiration for a coming shoot, here I suggest you how to use a vintage Polaroid and other props.

Every time I do a fashion shoot for the blog I become a little shy. Being photographed in public is always so embarrassing because people don’t understand what is going on so they keep staring. And judging. Well, I have already told you my secrets on blogging photography 5 tricks on how to pose naturally, now I will introduce you the use of props, in my case Polaroids.

So here we are. As you can see from the images in this post, I am taking my Polaroid around as a bag. The strap is really thin but strong. Of course, you can also use the camera to take pictures, to pretend to take them and use it as a shield between you and the camera in front of you.

Having a great result with Polaroids is super easy because the classic appeal of them is transparent. They give that unique touch of old school style that I always aspire to when I was younger. The 80s vibe is reflected through the first idea of having a photographed developed in your hand after seconds.

Now the variety of different colours makes it even funnier to use a polaroid for fashion shoots. Classic colour, black and white, red tone, pink tone and then all of this but with a black frame – the choice is really insane. Sorry Instax fans, I can’t help myself but they are just pretty pastel instant cameras whereas Polaroids are history.

It is also time to change another myth. For different reasons I have always believed that wearing glasses  and having photos of me with glasses on, would look bad and would not be attractive at all. I know how shallow and superficial this sounds but I have always felt less pretty with glasses on. Any kind of glasses – Prada’s or the 5 euro one you find in the bookstore – wearing them was already a problem.

To this extent, my next prop suggestion are your glasses. If you have to wear them daily and you don’t feel like using contact lenses and you are a blogger that is totally okay. It should be okay, I am just reminding you this because it has taking me a lot to accept my flaws. Use your glasses on shoot and don’t care if get light reflections on the lenses. A good photographer should know not to get a picture straight in front of you but from a side.

Of course I still prefer not having them because I could do my make up easily but if you are in a rush or you just don’t give a damn, well I totally feel you.

In conclusion, I suggested you to use polaroids and glasses as props in your next fashion shoots. Of course Polaroid translates in every other fancy camera you own and glasses might turn to sunglasses if you have Superman sight but apart from that, I hope this post might be helpful.
