Long Gypsy Dress for Colder Days

This past week was Xmas and during the Christmas holidays believe me when I say there wasn’t one day with no fog. The entire time there was this deep mist, strong fog that covered almost everything. Apart from how cold it gets, I decided to do a proper shoot. Therefore, I asked my friends if they wanted to come along and go outside for this ‘suicide mission‘ and we just went.
We went near a small river, at the edge of the countryside in order to find a good spot. The line of trees you see behind me – or at least is vaguely there – hides a cycle track but there was no one that day. It’s lovely to do it in the summer though (I did it a few times – it’s almost 30 km). Anyway, the dull mysterious atmosphere the fog created was irresistible for me.
The Gypsy Dress
Let’s get to how I am dressed. First of all the dress is from Stradivarius and I am sure you can still find it on ASOS. It was around 30€ and it is super soft. Also, it doesn’t look cheap and it is the perfect length for a pair of boots/heels. Otherwise, the maxi dress is a little too long. Having said that, the maxi dress comes with a black long cami top underneath because it is very see-through.
what I am wearing: Stradivarius Gypsy Dress / ASOS Boots / Zara Coat / H&M Hat
Accessories
I decided to pair the dress up with a sort of cowboy hat I remembered having in my wardrobe. It’s from H&M of some collections ago but it is still great for its purpose.
Then I added a chain necklaces from ASOS which is very similar to the Missoma ones. As for rings, I wore my beloved Regalrose Raven Ring and some other silver ones collected from various markets.
Boots are an old discovery from ASOS and I am sure there are similar ones, same for the hat and the coat. I have got this one last year from Zara but everywhere there are similar Acne dupes of the faux shearling biker jacket.
Photo Gear
Coming to photo gear I let my friends use the Canon 5D Mark II in manual set up as:
- 200 ISO
- f/2.5
- 1/2000
I only have a 50mm lens which is a little complicated since we have to move around a lot but for now is okay.
White balance was previously set up manually as 5800 Kelvin.
After having the pictures, I imported them all in Lightroom and did a little changes in colours. Soon I will talk you through this passage in more details.
Make-Up
As for make-up, I decided to play a little with shiny eyeshadows and I used the Zoeva Opulence Palette.
For the lips, I mixed Sleek Dare lipstick with Burberry Oxblood because I wanted a less purple tone red.
I then used a shiny highlighter stick in a dark gold from Maybelline on my cheeks and that’s it.
Having said that, I think I will use this dress for winter indoor events but I will keep it ready for summer festivals because it is the perfect light dress. My mind is daydreaming about some psytrance festival even though people there wear fluffy boots but who cares? I never stick to the required dress code. Ravers, you have heard me — see you soon! (:
Let me know if have liked this post and dress – soon I will talk you about some photography tips for grey foggy days as this one.
