I have realised that I am not a Festival girl but rather a Goa party lover and I will tell you why. Goa Trance music is my favourite and you don’t have to be high to love it.

All My Life I have been Raving to go to a Proper Music Festival
All my life I have been raving to go a Festival: Coachella, Lollapalooza, Burning Man, Glastonbury, the one on the Isle of Wight I don’t recall its name and many many more. But I have never actually been to one.
Instead, I have seen videos, heard adventures from my friend (okay, only one from my ex-housemates, she told me how insane Glastonbury was) and scroll down every Instagram feed on the subject.
The Goa Psytrance Music Party Lover
After that, I have realised that I am not a Festival girl but rather a Goa party lover and I will tell you why. First of all, I am sure you are wondering about Goa is. It is something quite new to me as well but it’s a type of music. The way I love to describe it is very easy: think yoga sessions background music, add a little techno and here you have it.
Of course, this is a quite rushed definition but it can get you in the mind of what it is faster. In reality, if you have ever listened to Psy-trance, trance, full-on, goa trance music, they are all brothers and sisters in music. For me I started out with falling in love with Die Antwoord, slowly moving to trap music then switching to Goa.
Why I love Goa Trance Music
The fact that I do yoga at least twice a week increases my love for trance music and even though is quite a heavy music to listen to, I find it really chill and relaxing. But I don’t know anyone else who would tell you so.
Usually most people have this misconception that Goa music is just for ravers. I don’t believe in it at all: goa music can’t be listened to only if you are high. Absolutely not. Goa is the typical rave music, it is then up to you to decide whether you want to add drugs or not.
I have danced to it and I have always had a fantastic time. People are nicer, kinder and not judging. This is fundamental for me, a girl who has spent her childhood and teenage years practising dance classes but never being good at it. So that when my friends and I used to go clubbing I have always felt so out of place and constantly judged by everyone in the room.
Instead, when dancing to Goa and trance music, I feel home. I like jumping, moving my hands or closing my eyes, I like the chilled atmosphere where no one is judging you. And it is the same anywhere, I have been to a few Goa parties here in Italy and to one under a subway station in Berlin. Nothing was different and I loved it.
Why I am not a Festival Girl
Festivals make me stress too much. How to dress, what temporary tattoos to wear, boots or no boots, just too many details. Also, they are always so crowded with people like there is no space to breathe. You go near the stage and you are so stuck one to another like those glues. For me, being surrounded by too many people easily gets on my nerves.
It’s not an anxiety sort of problem, it is more about my temper. I risk starting a fight in zero seconds. Lately, my temper got worse: I can’t stand people who are rude so I immediately reply and sometimes it works fine, other time it gets to a bigger verbal fight.
Maybe I should at least go to one – in your experience how it is best to start: with a big or a small festival? Also, have you ever heard of Goa music?

Let me also suggest you some tips and tricks of what to wear at rave festivals. I always enjoy having some cute funny accessory with me. I once went dancing with a polar bear backpack. Oh yes.
