Different Choices of Rings for Ladies
Jewellery is something that humans have been wearing for thousands of years, and you can get a lot of insightful information about the history of jewellery on various reference sites online. Over the centuries, traditions have formed of wearing rings for specific reasons, and if you have ever wondered what the reason is for some of these rings, below is a synopsis of the different rings that people wear and why they wear them.
The Engagement Ring
Although the engagement ring is a concept that can be traced back to Roman times, it is only more recently that it has become popular in the mainstream. The ring is a symbol of a couple’s intent to marry one another and is often a lavish and extravagant ring.
The Wedding Ring
Another familiar ring that we all know the meaning of is the wedding ring. When a couple is married, they exchange rings which are a symbol of their eternal love for each other. There is a lot of choices available today, and you can get ladies platinum wedding rings, as well as wedding rings made in a variety of other metals such as Gold, Palladium, Silver, and also Titanium amongst others.
An eternity ring is often a metal band which can also be encrusted with precious jewels and is often given to a wife by a husband on an anniversary. There are three different types of eternity ring available which are;
- Full Eternity Ring
- Three Quarter Eternity Ring
- Half Eternity Ring
The style of ring denotes how far around the ring the precious stones will go, with a full eternity ring having jewels all the way around the circumference of the ring, and a half eternity ring only has them going half way around.
A Promise Ring
Another type of ring common in Western cultures is the promise ring, which is something like a precursor to an engagement ring. A couple is committed to each other but not ready yet to commit to getting engaged. A popular choice for this type of ring is a pearl or a small diamond.
A Purity Ring
A purity ring is something that is less common for people to wear in present day society, as it is a sign of someone’s chastity and promise to remain a virgin until they are married. You will often see inscriptions such as True Love Awaits written on the rings, but these types of rings are becoming less popular in society today.
A Signet Ring
Wearing a signet ring is something that was very popular centuries ago, and although can still be seen today, it is a lot less common for people to wear. The ring will usually have initials or a family coat of arms on it and would be the type of thing that is used to make a wax seal on a letter or envelope.
A Mother’s Ring
A mother’s ring is another type of ring that is not as popular as it used to be in days gone by, although you do still see people wear them today. The ring will usually contain the birth stone of someone precious in their lives such as a son, daughter, or parents.
As well as the few rings that are listed above, there are a lot more different rings that people wear for a myriad of various reasons. At the end of the day whatever ring you like to wear, and for whatever reason, if it makes you happy who cares about what other people think!
