I am starting a new series here on the blog called On My Wander/List. It’s the huge wish-list of places I am so eager of visiting. Today we talk about Amsterdam.
On My Wander/list:
I have never been to Amsterdam but this city has always been on my travel wishlist for ages. When my friend told me he was going there for a techno festival, I was like: “well…would you take some pictures for me please? + *heart eyes and cute face emojii*“. Even though he wasn’t sure of how many he would actually take, he said yes. I want to state very clear that all the pictures are his (credits at the end as always) edited by me except for, of course, the ones where there is a blonde chick (aka me).
Ladies and gentleman, why do I want to visit Amsterdam? I will write down a bunch of reasons for you.
Amsterdam is known as the Venice in the North or similar. In my imagination it is like my Venice but with a colder weather and less tourists. Or at least I love to think it might be. I would calmy wander around or even bike since it is almost mandatory in order to feel local.
The architecture is a mixture of British, French and German influences, which give Amsterdam a unique touch. I am in love with how awesome are the dark colours in their houses – it is easy to make things pretty with pastel colours but it is harder with intense dark ones, so well done Amsterdam. I have seen the first picture at the beginning so many times, it is the quintessential soul of Amsterdam and I am glad he took that.
3. Cafè = Waffles
I think I have watched too many videos of bloggers going on holiday in Amsterdam because I became obsessed with their cafes. So pretty, instagrammable and full of the greatest pastries ever. Let me be clear! Since I was in the States I started needing waffles. American waffles are very different from the Dutch ones but equally delicious. So knowing me, I would spend half of the time in there.
4. Last reason
Then there is my curiosity over weed. What is Amsterdam best known for? I won’t be hypocrite and not talk about it.
I am openly pro-legalisation and I wish there was more information about drugs in Italy, knowledge is power anywhere. Learning how drugs behave in our bodies and minds is necessary. Our bodies react differently with every drug we take and they do not react in the same way, meaning I can be highly tolerant and maybe you aren’t. Smoking marijuana is bad as smoking cigarettes, maybe not that bad – so why one is legal and the other is forbidden?
I highly suggest you to read a book called Buzzed: The Straight Facts About the Most Used and Abused Drugs from Alcohol to Ecstasy if you are interested. There is no moral judgement in this book, just the straight facts.
Anyway my interest in Amsterdam is pretty high (sorry for what may sound as a double meaning!) but it is the first city I wish to visit soon! It is close by, lovely even in this autumn weather so I just need to plan my visit!
